Sandbar Lecture Series: ‘A Rare Titanic Family’
August 13, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Enjoy lifelong learning fun throughout August at the Museum of Coastal Carolina’s weekly Sandbar Lecture Series! Every Tuesday at 6:00 pm, Sandbar Lectures inspire curiosity about regional history, coastal ecosystems, and diverse wildlife. Local subject matter experts facilitate lively and interactive presentations about a variety of fascinating topics for all visitors:
On August 13, it’s “A Rare Titanic Family.” “A Rare Titanic Family” is the story Albert Caldwell told his great-niece and Sandbar Lecture presenter Julie Hedgepeth Williams of how he, his wife Sylvia, and their infant son Alden were one of the few families who survived the Titanic. Williams shares her great-uncle’s version of events and adds one undisclosed part of the story discovered through research.
Julie Hedgepeth Williams fell in love with history because her great-uncle survived the Titanic. He was 26 at the time, he lived to be 91, and she knew him well. Williams earned a master’s degree and PhD in media history from the University of Alabama, and she is the past president of the national AmericanJournalism Historians Association.
All one-hour Sandbar lectures are free with Museum admission. Visit the Museum website for current admission rates.
