Book Drive

Third grade is a pivotal point in a child’s education. It’s when they switch from learning to read to reading to learn. Children who are not reading proficiently by 3rd grade are 4 times more likely to drop out of high school. Drop-outs have lower incomes, higher unemployment rates and poorer health outcomes. The St. James Service Club is striving to collect one new book for every 3rd-grader in 4 local elementary schools. Help these students reinforce learning by selecting titles from an Amazon Wish List or consult Scholastic Books for suggested titles and deliver to the home of Paula Munger, 3553 Medina Dr. E., or Lisa Kahn, 1437 Harpers Way. If you prefer, click here to donate using PayPal/credit card or drop off checks at Paula’s home. Money will be used to buy listed books. The book drive runs through Tuesday (10/31). Gift-wrapped books will be distributed before children leave on winter break.
